Reading Comprehension Tips

Reading comprehension means you need to understand what you are reading.  Simply reading line by line without understanding is waste of time then you are not able to answer even single question also.  Here I am giving some useful tips to answer reading comprehension questions.  Implement these tips while practicing RC questions.

*Skim Information Slowly at first for gathering Key points or Key words.

*Read word groups rather than single words.

*Categorize information.

*Taking notes of information.

-Taking brief notes is very helpful for finding keywords or important words in your passage.

*Break down introduction like 

1.Topic(subject) 

 2.Main Idea 

3.Thesis(opinion)  

-This helps you Skim to what you need.

*Able to understand, think about, manipulate the text.

-Reading comprehension means not only reading but also you need to understand (comprehend) what you are reading.  There by itself thinking process is activated in your brain.

-Manipulate the text means convert that given text in your own words for better understanding.

*Comprehension helps readers to engage with the text.

-If you comprehend what you are reading then there is no chance to enervate yourself.

*Use their background knowledge to comprehend.

*Making connections what you're reading.

*Making Predictions before and during reading.

-While predicting imagine the information related to only that passage .

*Making inferences while reading.

-While making inferences you must go beyond the obvious.

-Beyond what the author explicitly state.

-Look for Logical implications of what they say.

*Visualizing-Thinking about pictures in your head.

*Asking questions-Inform your brain what to look for.

-This tip is very helpful to Comprehend the passage.

*synthesizing-How your thinking changes.

*summarizing what you've read.

 This we will compare with the sandwich.
